After seeing Kehinde Wiley’s Exhibition at the Brookyln Museum of Art, Michael Jackson hired the artist to have his likeness depicted in the regal styling typically seen in Wiley’s work. The painting was started and the two artists communicated on ensuing imagery. However, Jackson’s “elusive nature” caused communications to fall to the wayside and work on the piece was halted.

After Jackson’s untimely death the piece entitled “Equestrian Portrait of King Philip II” was completed and was on display at Miami’s Art Basel in all of its majestic glory.
